Angel Biscuits

What makes Angel Biscuits unique is that they use both baking powder and yeast for leavening. The result is a tender delicious biscuit.

Ingredients

  • 1 (1/4 oz.) Dry Active Yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 5 Cups flour
  • 3 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp. Salt
  • 1 tsp. Baking Soda
  • 1/2 Cup Cold butter
  • 1/2 Cup Shortening
  • 2 Cups Buttermilk
  • 1/4 Cup Melted Salted Butter optional
  • 1/2 Cup Warm Water – optional/as needed

Directions

  1. Mix all the dry ingredients together including the yeast.
  2. Add buttermilk until a shaggy dough.
  3. Knead out some.
  4. Roll out.
  5. Cut as desired.

Bake

425° for 17 to 25 minutes.
