What makes Angel Biscuits unique is that they use both baking powder and yeast for leavening. The result is a tender delicious biscuit.
Ingredients
- 1 (1/4 oz.) Dry Active Yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 5 Cups flour
- 3 tablespoon sugar
- 5 teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 1/2 tsp. Salt
- 1 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1/2 Cup Cold butter
- 1/2 Cup Shortening
- 2 Cups Buttermilk
- 1/4 Cup Melted Salted Butter optional
- 1/2 Cup Warm Water – optional/as needed
Directions
- Mix all the dry ingredients together including the yeast.
- Add buttermilk until a shaggy dough.
- Knead out some.
- Roll out.
- Cut as desired.
Bake
425° for 17 to 25 minutes.
